The O-1 visa is for individuals with extraordinary ability in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics — those at the very top of their fields. With no annual cap, no prevailing wage requirement, and unlimited extensions, the O-1 has become a powerful alternative to the H-1B. O-1A applicants must satisfy at least 3 of 8 regulatory criteria, followed by a final merits determination. The O-1 also serves as a bridge to EB-1A green card eligibility.
